Obituary for Michael B. Zielinski PhD

ZIELINSKI - Michael, PhD Of Amherst, NY, August 29, 2022, at age 77. Loving son of the late Benedict and Velma Zielinski; dear brother of the late Audrey (Joseph) Zon; dearest uncle of Joseph, Martin, Timothy, Peter and David Zon; also survived by great-nieces and nephews. Visitation at the KOLANO FUNERAL HOME, 396 Amherst St. (near Grant) Friday 4-8PM, where prayers will be held Saturday at 9AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Assumption Church at 9:30AM. Entombment with Military Honors at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Michael was a teacher, an administrator and then later the principal at Maryvale High School. After 30 years with the Maryvale School District, Zielinski retired in 2000. He taught English and was the district chairman of the English Department. As an administrator, he worked in the district bus transportation office before serving in the high school as an assistant principle and then principle.

Born in the Black Rock section of Buffalo, Zielinski attended the Assumption School and Cardinal Dougherty High School. He received a bachelors and a masters degree from Canisius College, and a masters and a doctorate degree from the University at Buffalo. He served with U.S. Army Military Intelligence for two years.

Michael was a member of the Assumption Church, the West Side Rowing Club and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. His interests included boating, cross-country skiing and reading. He also made several cross-country bicycle trips.
