Obituary for Rev. Msgr. Francis M. Skupien

Rev. Msgr. Francis Matthew Skupien, September 12, 2018, at age 91. Msgr. Skupien, was the son of the late Matthew and Blanche (nee Dziomba) Skupien. He was pre-deceased by and the youngest brother to the late Mary (Stanley) Dubiel, Anthony (Stephanie), Rose (John) Lucki, Alice, Sr. Mary Emily Skupien, CSSF, and Rev. Msgr. Joseph Skupien.

Msgr. Skupien attended Little Seminary of St. Teresa 1943-46, Pontifical University of the Propagation of Faith in Rome, Italy 1946-52 and was ordained a Roman Catholic Priest on December 21, 1951 in Rome, Italy. He served his 67 years of priesthood as a teacher at Notre Dame in Batavia, a guidance counselor and teacher at Bishop Gibbons High School in North Tonawanda, pastor at Our Lady of the Rosary in Wilson (now St. Brendan on the Lake), and for 16 years as pastor at St. Mary’s Church in Gasport. Msgr. Skupien retired in December of 1994. In retirement he lived in residence at St. Mark’s in Kendall and the Bishop Edward Head Residence in Lackawanna.

Msgr. Skupien will lie in state Friday morning from 9-10 AM at Assumption R. C. Church, 435 Amherst St., where a concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 AM. Most Rev. Edward M. Grosz, D.D., Auxiliary Bishop of Buffalo, will be the principle celebrant. Please assemble at Church. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Cheektowaga, NY.

Flowers gratefully declined. Memorials may be made to the Assumption Church Preservation Fund.
