Born March 25, 1938, in Rome, NY, passed away in his home March 18, 2020. After serving as a firefighter for the city of Buffalo, he was a chemist at National Aniline. Don subsequently devoted his professional life as a chemistry teacher at Hutchinson Central Technical High School and other Buffalo city schools for more than 25 years. He chose to continue his love of learning and education by donating his body to the UB Anatomical Gift Program. Don enjoyed camping, touring, recreational flying, hiking, spending winters in Florida, and honing his skills as an amateur radio operator. He is survived by his wife Anne and many endeared family members and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Flowers graciously declined. Donations are welcomed to the charity of the giver’s choice. Your online memories and condolences may be shared at

Anne - I have been so blessed to call you and Don "family". I am celebrating the life of "Uncle Don" and I am beyond grateful for his beautiful impact on my life! Heartfelt sympathies.

Don was such a dynamic person and had a memorable impact on me. I remember when you both visited us in Plano, many years ago, and I was in Don's plane, and he was pointing out the landing strip. I thought I had to land it, and at age 10, I panicked at the thought.
I smile when I think of him eating so much horseradish that he was sweating and his face was beet red, but he just kept hooting and hollering and eating more.
Don gave us our first home computer, a Texas 99/4a. He and I used the manual to put together a series of 1's and 0's and coded the program called Bojangles. Bojangles danced across the screen to music, and Don acted as if I was the brightest person in the world for having the computer do that, He always made me feel as if I was the smartest, most interesting, and capable person around, and I thank him for this vote of confidence in me. And -- thank you, Anne, for sharing him with me and my family. I smile as I recall these memories, and hope you will do the same.

We are so sorry for the loss of Don. He had such an incredible life! God cares for those for whom we can no longer physically care for, until we meet again. We will always remember him smiling!

It is heartbreaking to realize that Don, the life of the party, always effervescent and happy, has left us. His death leaves a void - no one will every be able to fill his shoes. My children remember Don with fondness, and remember he used to play basketball with them when you visited. He is enjoying his well-earned reward in Heaven.

Don led a very distinguished life, always helping others. Your mutual devotion and love for each other, Anne, was wonderful to see. Please accept my sympathies to you and your family. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
